Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Âé¶¹¹ú²ú complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which provides students with certain rights regarding the privacy of and access to their education records. See Policy 4.10 Student Privacy for more information.
 

Student Record Release

Students may choose to authorize a parent, spouse, or other third party to access portions of their student record, such as grades, billing or financial aid information. Sandhills cannot provide this information without the student's permission.

Once permission is granted, access remains in effect for the duration of the student's enrollment at Sandhills unless the student establishes an end date or revokes access.

 

Instructions for Students to Grant Access to a Third Party

  1. Log in to
  2. Click your User ID Name located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and select Student Records Release.
  3. Click Add Person/Relationship and enter the requested information.
    1. Create a 4-digit PIN to share with the person you are authorizing.
    2. Start and end dates are optional unless you want access for the person to be temporary.
  4. Choose the level of access you want to provide:
    1. Allow Complete Access – Provides access to everything listed below; or
    2. Allow Select Access – Choose from the following:
      1. Student Account Information – Billing activity, charges, credits, payments, and balances
      2. Financial Aid/VA Benefits – Awards, benefits, loans, application data, disbursements and eligibility
      3. Academic Information – Final grades, GPA, enrollment status and registration information
  1. Check the authorization box and click Submit.

Once you have submitted the release, provide the authorized person with the 4-digit PIN you created. The person must provide the PIN when requesting information from your student record.

Revoking Access

To revoke access for all authorized individuals, log in to Self-Service, select Student Records Release, and click Deny Access To All. To revoke access for only one person, add an end date to that person's release.
