Eligibility 

To be eligible for this program, candidates must meet the following requirements: 

• Employed or under contract for employment with a Moore or Hoke County public school system 

• Bachelor鈥檚 degree (degree must meet the 24 hrs of gen ed required by NCDPI) 

• 2.7 GPA 

 

How to Apply 

All interested applicants should complete the Alternative鈥疦C鈥疶eaching Licensure: NCCS Cultivating Carolina Classrooms-鈥�鈥痮nline through CFNC (College Foundation of North Carolina) to apply. *Please note: Applications are completed through CFNC, not on the SCC website. 

***At the start of the application, you must complete the 鈥淩esidency Determination鈥� form using your social security card and driver鈥檚 license. In addition to the application, students must provide:鈥� 

• Unofficial transcripts for admission purposes 

• Official transcripts once admitted to the program 

• A letter of employment or promised placement from the local school

1. Create a CFNC account to access the application link (required by the system) 
2. Click 鈥淎pply to College鈥� 
3. Click 鈥淎pplication Hub鈥� 
4. Click 鈥淪tart an application鈥� 
5. Select 鈥淎lternative NC Teaching Licensure: NCCCS Cultivating Carolina Classrooms.鈥� 
6. When you arrive at the field for the 鈥淓ducator Prep Program,鈥� you will be asked to select your top three community college options. Please select 鈥溌槎构�产鈥� as your first option. 
7. Submit your application 

Once the application is鈥痵ubmitted, the applicant will be contacted by the NCCCS EPP Program Coordinator with support from the SCC Teacher Education Coordinator to鈥痙etermine鈥痚ligibility and college placement of the applicant.鈥疶he application will then be鈥痜orwarded鈥痶o SCC for admission to the Residency Licensure Certificate program. The applicant will be officially enrolled in the Sandhills Residency Licensure Program once an official transcript(s) is received and reviewed by鈥痶he EPP contact at SCC.鈥�

Course Sequence (16-week courses)

Beginning Spring 2025, SCC offers six鈥痗ourses,鈥痜ocused on the pedagogy of teaching and preparation for licensure and certification. The program will meet the individual needs of each student while working in cohorts with other teachers in the same residency program. Students are mentored and supported by experienced faculty who are licensed teachers and have years of experience teaching in the elementary school environment. 

Year 1 Spring 

EDU 270 Effective Instructional Environment (2 credits) 
EDU 279 Literacy Development and Instruction (4 credits) 

Year 1 Fall  

EDU 277 Integrated Curriculum and Instructional Strategies: Math/Science (3 credits) 

Year 1 Summer 

EDU 272 Technology, Data, and Assessment (3 credits) (8 week course) 

Year 2  Fall 
EDU 278 Integrated Curriculum and Instructional Strategies: Social Studies/ELA (3 credits) 

Year 2 Spring 

EDU 283 Educator Preparation Practicum (3 credits) 

*Continuous start dates in Fall鈥� 
*Courses require 2 observations by the EPP director and/or assigned coach except for EDU 270 
*These courses will be held at 麻豆国产 in a hybrid model: mostly online with a few face-to-face meetings per course 

 

Program Completion 

To complete the program and be recommended for licensure, students must complete the following in their three years of residency licensure: 

• Six courses (18 credit hours) with a grade 鈥淐鈥� or better 

• Required testing stated by the Department of Instruction with minimum passing scores: 
  Praxis Math: 150 
  Pearson Reading: 233 
  EdTPA Passing Scores*: Elementary Literacy-38; OR Elementary Mathematics-38 *passing score may change due to state legislation
